As a child of the 90s (I remember very little before the First Gulf War) I have to say I'm quite sad. Its tough getting older when you realize those you grew up with are no longer at the top (or even close) of their game.

and top gun rulez...we always (aerospace engineer student) see it ones a year with after that the biggest party of the year...a 1800 students knowing each line of a movie and then getting drunk is a very fun thing to see

2.) Mike Tyson, former Champion of the World, gave up in the 6th round to Irishman Kevin McBride (from Dorchester, MA what what), in possibly the final time he steps into a boxing ring. Of course, his career REALLY ended in 1990 when he lost to Buster Douglas, and later was imprisoned.

3.) The Spice Girls, who were to reform at Live 8, were cancelled from appearing on the show because they weren't the type of music organizers were looking for. Of course, they REALLY ended in 1998 when they broke up after their one-hit, crappy movie days were gone.

4.) Madonna, the First Lady of Pop, apologized for "over-sexing" her image and performances, including her infamous early 90s tour solidified in music history with her cone-shaped corset and fishnet stockings. Of course, her career REALLY ended with Ray of Light in 1998 (although some would say Evita was the last time anyone really cared.)

5.) Extreme Championship Wrestling, the company that was an upstart in 1993 and forced the then-World Wrestling Federation to change its format in the mid-90s to WWF Attitude (which in turn created the biggest wrestling boom in pop culture since Hulkamania) had two reunion shows (one a PPV sponsered by now-World Wrestling Entertainment). Of course, ECW REALLY died a few years ago after WWE and WCW talent raids during the late 90's until the death of the company.

6.) Tom Cruise, the golden boy of the 90's, appeared on Leno to try to make himself seem more normal after his outbursts on Oprah, etc. Of course, he hasn't REALLY been normal since he devoted his life to Scientology in the 90's.

The 80's will live forever. Unfortunately for the 90's, they'll only live until GTA: San Andreas gives way to the next generation GTA. As a child of the 90s (I remember very little before the First Gulf War) I have to say I'm quite sad. Its tough getting older when you realize those you grew up with are no longer at the top (or even close) of their game.
Is it really the end of Michael Jackson's career? He's been offered big money to perform at Wynn Las Vegas in Las Vegas. There's a decent possibility he will take it (he needs the money). Yeah it's a step down from putting out multi-platinum albums and selling out stadiums and arenas on a world tour. But are you going to say Elton John and Celine Deion (both have exclusive Las Vegas shows) don't have careers?

In any case I'm a child of the 80's. and some of those you mentioned were big in the 80's not 90's. Michale Jackson, Madonna, and Mike Tyson.

But I miss when pop music was based off of rock and roll beats (not hip hop or r&b beats- not that I'm racist or anything, I just don't care for those beats). Pop music had rock beats and often guitars. Songs like My Sharona. That song is still a classic. Or the B-52's music. Even songs like Material girl (madonna) and Beat it (michael jackson) were basically rock songs. Beat it had a guitar solo by Eddie Van Halen.

And back when British music was still good. Duran Duran, Depeche Mode, Pet Shop Boys. all good. Not to mention all the good British metal bands like Iron Maiden being at the top of their game.

she just doesn't want her kids calling her a slut when they become teenagers.
She was in porn. Lost cause for her, methinks.

Uh, Jackson is a child of the 70's, Madonna, Tyson, and Cruise are all 80s icons. Only the wrestling thing and the Spice Girls are 90s "icons."

I didn't believe that Rock Hudson was gay until his affliction with AIDS began to show in the last pictures he made. Mind you Rock was once married to the goodess of the hearth of the 1950 and 1960s, Doris Day.

Liberace and Truman Capote we always knew about. It was a surprise when Victor Borga was revealed to be straight and Leonard Bernstein revealed to be gay.

I think that Cruise is arguably at his peak now. He seems to be knocking off major pictures with Steve Spielberg every year.

You obviously didn't get the title. I'm saying they all died in the 90s, but aparently died again this past weekend.

I guess I'm a man of the future, as I don't feel the slightest sense of loss over EmpFab's 6 "Icons." I never liked Jackson or Madonna, I disliked professional wrestling, I think Cruise is a talentless himbo, I loathed the Spice Girls and I always thought Tyson was an animal who did a disservice to his sport.
