As you all know, Priceline is a travel site where you submit bids for plane tickets, hotels, rental cars, etc.
1) Well, www.biddingfortravel.com is a site where people share their information about what bids got accepted and what you got at Priceline.com. This practice reduces Priceline's profits by providing the information that allows Priceline's bidders to make more intelligent bids (i.e. lower bids that still win). This site was taken down by hackers over Memorial day weekend for a few days.
2) www.jcwhitney.com (a popular car parts web site) was hijacked so their front page displayed lowestfare.com instead. lowestfare.com is owned by Priceline.
Why would hackers do things to benefit a corporate entity like Priceline? Could they have been paid by someone? Trading volume on Priceline (PCLN) has seen some spikes in the last week or so. I wonder if something is up. What do you guys think?
