  • Pit of Hell Question

Who ranks lower on your personal scale of hellish n00bdom, people who still somehow use AOL to get online or people who still willingly use IE despite information on alternatives?

As an elitist from on high, with broadband and Firefox, I must say it is a tough decision. But the answer is: people who still use AOL. They are as strange to me as a man with a musket on the subway.

I liberated myself from AOL a year ago.

        Neither.

People who still use FrontPage to "compose" Web pages are lower. They in turn are higher than those who write a document in Word and export to HTML. ::vomit:: You want to use a flamethrower on that pile of turd.

Neither is a good decision, but the decision to use AOL is more rational. There is still some reasons why one could prefer AOL. They have high speed now, and they have their own internal network you can't get without AOL.

IE, on the other hand, there is no reason why you would prefer it to Firefox.

Sadly, some Web sites can only be accessed by IE...

That's why you keep IE as a backup browser. I should rephrase then, there is no reason to use IE as a primary browser.

Complain to these sites if you must visit them (bank sites, etc.), now that Firefox is somewhere around 15% it needs to be considered. Otherwise just write them a note and go elsewhere.

The way Word exports to HTML is truly astonishing. The default XML export in Word 2003 is pretty amazing too.

Why would you switch to Firefox over IE? I mean what about IE makes it so bad that it would be worth the effort to use something else?

People who use Windows. I had to use it last week and it still amazes me what a useless piece of **** it is.

                        Eh? How so?

There's no reason I'd use any other operating system. That and it's free (read: already paid for).

Trying to get anything done is a pain. Trying to get Classical Greek to work properly is a pain. The font rendering sucks. The UI sucks. The graphics are ****. There is no Exposé/Widgets. Crap search. No drag installs/uninstalls. Ugly as hell. I could go on.

Oh... and putting the task bar at the bottom was a stroke of genius.

Enlighten an ignorant furriner, but what's so terrible about AOL?
