I think you guys just aren't the target demographic for the philly show. Before 50 cent bailed, I thought it was a pretty incredible line up.

Speaking of Mick, the promoters have added 3 venues: Toronto, Tokyo, and Johannesburg. The Stones are likely to play at Toronto.

Destiny's Child and Linkin Park have been added to Philly ...

I might just stop by the Philly concert as I have to drive through the city that day to visit someone in NJ anyway...

There will not be a "Toronto" show. Looks like Barrie instead.

Early word is the Stones will not play. Although they are in town they are apparently behind on the recording of their new CD.

I'm not sure whether I can sense a general public apathy towards all this or whether it's just me feeling apathetic towards it?

Notice not one post has mentioned the "cause" these artists are supposedly gathering for? The tactic will be a failure in that respect but there should be some good shows.

I may cynical but IMHO people would pay to watch a good show even if t was for a bad cause, but not the other way around. You cannot promote a show by using the cause as the major selling point, people want a good show first and if some Africians happen to get helped out along the way, then all the better.

I don't think the vast majority of those planning to attend one of the shows care what the cause is. They will be going for the show. Will they come "onside" afterwards? Maybe, but I doubt it.

Plus Sissor Sisters, REM and Velvet Revolver. Looks like an awesome line up to me. Snow Patrol have a decent live reputation, after their tour sold out amid much hype and great reviews, I've seen Velvet Revolver live and they're utterly amazing - wasn't such a huge fan before, but it was incredible. The Killers are rumoured to be able to hack it live pretty well too, and I've never seen a bad Muse gig review. Sissor Sisters having been asked back to Glastonbury to play two sets seems to suggest they're live set's not too shabby either.

I'd say that's a quite startlingly good lineup. If Reading or Glastonbury could pull that over 3 days, let alone one, it'd be quite impressive.

It's not just the line up (though I agree with Muse and The Killer, the rest well...), you need to keep the atmosphere going, the running order will be very important. BTW Live8 doesn't begin and end in the UK you know, just 'cos our line up doesn't completely stink......;O)

The artists for the Canadian show are to be announced next week AFAIK. So far the London lineup appears to be the best.

Here are two countries that the Live 8 promoters hope will be the target of increased food aid and debt forgiveness:

Swaziland, ruled by King Mswati III:

                              http://www.cnn.com/2005/WORLD/africa...zi.wives.reut/

"Mswati, 37, has drawn criticism for spending money on luxury cars while many of his 1.1 million subjects struggle by on food aid, ravaged by the world's highest rate of HIV/AIDS which affects around two in every five adults.

Mswati early in June said he was not sub-Saharan Africa's only absolute monarch, contending that although political parties were banned in Swaziland, he only made decisions after consulting with the people."

                              and

Zimbabwe, ruled by President Robert Mugabe:

                              http://www.cnn.com/2005/WORLD/africa....ap/index.html

" The government's Operation Murambatsvina, or Drive Out Trash, has already left more than 250,000 city dwellers homeless in the winter cold. Police also have arrested more than 30,000 vendors, accusing them of dealing in black market goods and attempting to sabotage Zimbabwe's failing economy.

Opposition leaders say the eviction campaign is aimed at driving their supporters among the urban poor into rural areas, where they can be more easily controlled.

"The government wants to depopulate urban areas ahead of the 2008 elections and re-create a rural peasantry in which voters are brought under the control of local chiefs and Mugabe's militias," Sydney Masamvu, an analyst from the International Crisis Group think tank, said in a statement Friday."

But unlike Live Aid where the fans were asked to donate directly, this time we are to hassle our politicians. How many will?
