    • Anything I can help you guys with?

Look, I figure the dilemma is this:

The skull sucking aliens are making life really miserable as the masses are being rounded up and used for feeding and breeding, all to supply the aliens with brain food. No decent life for a once proud humanity. Noone but brainless blonde females would remain unmolested, quite a change imo.

So. As president you are faced with a choice. Nuke the world in order to destroy enough of humanity that the aliens have no reason to hang around, or let humanity exist through the eons as mere cattle raised to have their brains sucked out while still alive.

The problem is nuking the world enough to make it pointless for the aliens to hang around but not so much that we go extinct.

Luckily, and after the aliens have left, we have everything we need to make caves to grow food in and the tech to provide energy for the caves. A thriving civilization could thus be built underground, unnoticed by aliens. Perhaps our tech could evolve far enough that we could contact the slave worlds that are forced to help the locust skull suckers. We can only hope...

Anyway, the cave civ would be free of aliens and non comunist.

        • I'm in favor of using the caves as bases and fighting back (kind of like X-Com or UFO Aftermath).

Even so, most other lifeforms survived.

I read somewhere recently that the combined energy of the nuclear stockpile is less than that of a hurricane.
Well anyway, it was scientifically proven by Carl Sagan that the combined arsenals of the US and SU in the late 1970s would produce enough atmospheric ash to inflict a nuclear winter around the globe lasting up to 6 months, and therefore likely to wipe out most of humanity..

There is a LOT of skepticism about Sagan's claim. To state is was proven is a bit much.

6 months of total darkness with an average surface temperature of 0°C or 6 months of slightly obstructed sunlight with a slightly lower surface temperature? There's a huge range there...

Kind of like Erich von Danken. Long on theory, short on proofs. The Biblecode of Cosmology.

Bah, scientific snobbery! Sagen was a popular scientist/astonomer who had the ability to explain stuff to everyday people. He also wrote the book upon which Jodie Foster's Contact movie was based.

                          Bad example.
He presented theories as the way things were. Personally, I have nothing against him. I hate it when people dumb things down for the common masses (it can be sooo condescending) but on the positive side he did get alot of people interested in cosmology and thats what is important.

                          • I reckon you need popular science writers (Asimov being another famous one) to make science more accessable to the masses. Granted, sometimes they need to simplify things, but the work is important.

Sagan also wrote The Demon-Haunted World, which is a nice book on critical thought and science.
