                The worst part is that BIOSes DO give the "no keyboard found, press F1" message.

                      The kind of rent that you don't have to pay if you don't want to and still keep using your computer. Hence, not really rent at all.

                        Except Apple doesn't provide, say, MacOS 10.1 security updates...

                          They still provide the occasional 10.2 Security Update. I don't know about 10.1

                            Not good enough. They're effectively forcing users to upgraded by EOL'ing their products prematurely.
