My uni residence was based off a Swedish prison when they designed it in the 60's. I'll see if I can find any pictures....
Exult in your existence, because that very process has blundered unwittingly on its own negation. Only a small, local negation, to be sure: only one species, and only a minority of that species; but there lies hope. [...] Stand tall, Bipedal Ape. The shark may outswim you, the cheetah outrun you, the swift outfly you, the capuchin outclimb you, the elephant outpower you, the redwood outlast you. But you have the biggest gifts of all: the gift of understanding the ruthlessly cruel process that gave us all existence [and the] gift of revulsion against its implications.

I thought the picture of the campus you showed me was some sort of 60s nightmare Chichen Itza?

If that's 1/3 of your salary, it's not too bad. If it's more like 1/2, it is a bit steep.

I'm paying 400$ of that, as I have a roommate

That's something like 25% of my stipend (pretaxes)

I'll probably end up paying about 500-550$ a month starting in 2 months for my new place. With poker earnings it shouldn't be too tight (I should continue to be able to save 10-15% of my stipend).

              I pay less than $500 a month.

and that's with a 15 year loan, not a 30. I pay extra though, my place will be paid off in 2 years. Or less.

I haven't got any pics of my house, but here's the neighborhood.

You can only see the roof of my building. It's somewhere on the bottom of the photo.

So? Its just silly that one needs to be "proud" of every single building in one's city.
