  • Images of summer landscapes

Summer is just about here for us Northern Hemisphere people, so here's a thread for sharing images of summer landscapes for discussion.

First of all here's a beach. You can tell by the fact that it's a sandy beach that it probably faces fairly large waves most of the time- otherwise it would probably be a shingle beach. It's quite similar to the sort of thing you find on ocean-facing beaches.

Some glorious plant shots here. I'm no expert on tropical foliage so would welcome input from any botanists who may be able to identify what these are.

One of the things I love about summer is watching nature in action. This shot is an ecological angle- note that the rock formation shows both plant life in full flow (through the miracle of photosynthesis) and small crustacean life. It neatly encapsulates the lower end of the food chain and reminds us of how all life is intertwined.

Now here's a meteorological angle. This is a shot of a typical summer cloud formation- cumulus clouds. They're usually seen in warm, dry air so are the sky's signature on a sunny day.

Nothing sums up "summer" quite like the hypnotic play of sunlight on water. Here's just such a shot (sorry that it's a bit obscured by the person who wandered into the photo).

Finally, here's a glorious landscape shot of a beautiful summer day. The light effects and the play of shade is poetic.

This is a dramatic sunset shot- summers at the sea are great time for all you sunset fans. Note the delicate shading across the cumulus formations.

Now a seascape. It would be a great loss if we didn't cover the study of summer surf formations. This is a light coastal surf.
