If so, according to the editorial review, this book reflects his thoughts in the 1920s. So if our inference is correct, the quote in my OP is from the 1920s.

Use your hard earned skills as a historian to track it down, and don't berate people for not showing you the source of a nonexistant quote.

..Then why is it that I can go down to my local library and find several editions of this VERY SAME BOOK in print???!?!?! Already, I am seriously questioning the validity of this work. This book was first published in 1961....and I think I will be reading that version...the FIRST EDITION!!! Anyone who tauts that this is some newly discovered work had better do some research. The manuscript was discovered after the war....and if it takes almost 50 years to publish the "unpublished sequel", then something's rotten in Denmark! Get the first edition.

WAIT -- Jaffa did provide information on the quote from Hitler.


According to Jaffa's citation, Hitler stated the quote in the OP in 1933 in some piece of work titled The Voice of Destruction by Hermann Raushning. Raushning's book was published in 1940.

Moving on to Hitler, allow me to question your quote. First, as you indicate, Jaffa is not the primary source, which means for purposes of analyzing it we must turn to Hermann Rauschning. Could you provide the context of Rauschning's quotation of Hitler? Was he quoting another source? Was it a speech he gave or a paper he wrote? Does it have a date? A location?

I ask for two reasons. First, Rauschning was not among Hitler's closest confidents by any means and only seems to have even known Hitler for a period of only two years from 1932 to 1934 when Rauschning became a Hitler opponent and fled to Switzerland. Because of this the depth of his intimate knowledge of Hitler's beliefs is severely limited. Second - and correct me if you know of one - I know of no instance where Hitler said anything even remotely similar to that quote in his known speeches or in texts such as Mein Kampf that we know for certain to have been his. Unless you have some dates and document specifics or some other corroborating person besides Rauschning, I believe it is fair to say that the authenticity of that quote is dubious.

Come on, Fun, this can be done in thirty seconds of Googling.
