Considering what happend to those working with hal in the past, I wouldn't install it
With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.

But if you google "hal.dll" you'll get led to some pretty intimidating stuff. Seems to be a not uncommon problem and hence lots of advice.
