Our American eagle has two right wings.
Christianity: The belief that a cosmic Jewish Zombie who was his own father can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree...

Mainly because we're at war, and the electorate is stupid and thought Bush would do a better job at running the war than Kerry.

Well to be fair. Kerry did run a ****ty campaign to replace Bush and his position on Iraq (I voted for the 87 billion before I voted against it.) was never all that clear to the electorate.

The center went for Shrub because the Repubs were better mudslingers than the Dems were. Oh, and also, Kerry was boring. My. US governmnet Proffessor made a good point that every winner of the presidential election since 1960 was a better speaker than his rival. I'm convinced that some people actually do vote for the person they would like have a beer with.

What's scary is that a number of respected journals (ie, I either read it in the Times or the Post, but don't remember which) consider Kerry the frontrunner for 2008, or at worst, tied with Hillary.

But res polarization, we are increasingly moving into communities of people who only share our political viewpoint. My college, for instance, has 2400 students, and among them are 15 conservatives. The College Democrats had to create a College Republicans (run by the Democrats, naturally) in order to host a bipartisan forum. This is true on a greater scale, and the result is that when we think of Republicans, we don't think Philip from across the road. Rather, we construct some hypothetical Republican, who is only vaguely personlike. The other side does the same thing, and the result is the polarization that we're seeing now.
"Remember, there's good stuff in American culture, too. It's just that by "good stuff" we mean "attacking the French," and Germany's been doing that for ages now, so, well, where does that leave us?" - Elok

And we also have some Republicans calling others who disagree with President Bush's foreign/war policies as being unpatriotic, and accusing them of hating their own country.

Now days, disagreement with President Bush = hatred of one's own country for some Republicans.
A lot of Republicans are not racist, but a lot of racists are Republican.

                            WHY, god, WHY!?

I voted for Kerry, but I am also a realist -- we're better off without giving Kerry a second chance to lose. He would made a good president, but majority of Americans are not up to electing a good president.

That's not scary, because it's meaningless. At this stage of the game, the only thing such polls are measuring is name recognition. That's why the same polls show Guiliani as the favorite for the GOP nomination and show Frist as barely a blip on the radar, but anyone actually paying attention sees Frist as the man to beat in the GOP primaries, and Kerry as over.
