I think they both count.. but Chirac wouldn't get that big of a welcome, even though there would be one. So yeah, I think they both count. They'd be OK to go see some non-communist talk there, but then again, they'd rather go to see Bush talk even more.

I'm amazed by the amount of envy evident in some of those posts in that BBC link; especially the last one. The guy seems to think eastern Europe can only be friends with the EU or the US. We're supposed to be allies so can't they be friends with both of us?

What western nation seemingy opposes Russian interests most?

I'm thinking its a tie between the Vatican and Luxembourg. What about you?
Are we talking Russian interests here, or communist interests?

Well, if that is what the people vote for, OK. But the point of this that we get rid of one party rule where party membership is tightly controlled.

Bush is actually popular in a foreign country? Well... I though I'd never see the day!

                        Did he bribe the audience?

No, he's supporting the Georgian conquest of their neighbors, Abkahzia and South Ossetia.

people who believe in communism . . . almost exclusively are found in rich Western democracies.

Um.. Ned? You do know that the Communist Party is the 2nd biggest party in Russia's Duma, right? Also in Ukraine, the Communist Party was 3rd in seats.

So, you are wrong... as usual.

First - Georgia is a sovereign state, and so the issues of Abkahzia and South Ossetia are internal issues. If Russia wanted to contest the borders of Georgia, they should have done it in 1991 or earlier. Does Russia really want to put Chechnya on the international agenda? If Abkazia and South Ossetia belong there, why not Chechnya?

In fact IIUC the new govt in Georgia has been far more moderate in its approach to abkazia and south ossetia than Russia has been in Chechnya.

Its not clear to me that those parties really stand for Leninist ideology though. Are they for renationalizing the Russian economy, for cutting it off from world trade (which is Imperial exploitation) Or are they just for funding certain pensions while expressing nostalgia for the USSR?
