Blast shakes UK consulate in US

An explosion has rocked the British consulate in New York City.
The blast occurred outside the building on Third Avenue in Manhattan at 0330 local time (0730 GMT).

The explosion shattered windows in the building, which houses other offices, but there were no reports of people being injured.

Police are at the scene and the area has been sealed off. Details remain sketchy and it is not yet known what caused the blast.

    More details soon.
Can't find anything more atm, any NYers still awake? Doesn't sound too serious, I hope.

NEW YORK (CNN) -- An explosion in front of the British consulate in New York City has shattered windows but did not appear to cause significant damage or injuries, police said.

On TV people are saying it was so small as to not have caused any damage so it could have been some sick joke or it could have been terrorists trying to judge responses and response times.

Looks like it's much ado about nothing really. Basically seem like (fairly large) home made fire crackers.

Definitely domestic. If it was the other guys they'd clearly have lost touch.

They talked about this on the radio. Sounds like nothing.

Yup, fortunetly does sound like not a lot

Something that I was thinking about while slightly nervously commuting to work today, does anyone know how much public debate the Spanish had WRT the governments decision to go into Iraq pre their election? ( a fairly graceless question but I cant think of a more comfortable way of putting it right now)

While there was not much damage, it will be interesting to find out what the bomber had in mind in terms of a message to the British people.

They were apparently two toy metal grenades that had been filled with gunpowder as per drudge.
