Toshiba makes good middle-of-the-road laptops. For 1,000$, you should find a windows based laptop that is of very acceptable quality.

Radeon 7500 is sorta like a TNT2 or a GeForce2. So yes, but not really.

Remember, IBM isn't so much selling to consumers as it is to businesses and corporations that do bulk purchases.

I have found an absolutely perfect HP laptop... but it costs $1500 ($1400 if I bring it down to 512 megs RAM)

All you have to do is skip your caviar sandwiches for a couple days and you can afford it, or lay off a couple of the slaves that carry your throne for you. You can get by with four instead of six.
