  • Welcome littlest Oglethorpe

In an eeriely reminiscent replay of last June 4th I got a phone call from the wife saying strange results at the OB doctors office precipitated a run to the hospital.

This time instead of the dread news that the baby had no heartbeat, we instead got the news that the baby had a depressed heart beat as my wife had a 10 minute contraction during observation. (Something she has been telling the OB doctor has been going on the the last 2 weeks. Dufus that he was he didn't believe they were 'real' contractions.)

In light of the problems of the last pregnancy, no chances were taken and she was moved up from delivery May 9th to immediate delivery. Problem was it was in a breach presentation which meant cesarean.

Long story short, littlest Oglethorpe was delivered via Cesarean at a healthy 8lbs 7 oz. & 21 3/4".

Welcome to this wonderful yet totally screwed up world Sophia Gabrielle. (JohhT ) May your life be a series of wonders and joys.

Mother and baby are doing fine at the hospital.

Ah yes, the dreaded "Emergency Caesarian". To make a long story short my wife an I ended up in a situation with our first whereby my wife was in induced labor for over 20 hours, was exhausted from this, had developed a fever (i.e. "infection", which raises all sorts of red flags in the medical field), and the baby's heartbeat was becoming erratic. The situation was deteriorating rapidly before the doctors proposed an emergency caeserian, and my wife replied very emotionally, "just get our baby out" in a way that made it clear that the baby came first. Caesarian went very smoothly, and after cleanup I ended up holding our firstborn for the next three hours - just couldn't let her go..... After those 3 hours a nurse finally came up to me and asked, "Its been 3 hours - shouldn't you go check up on Mrs. D. and see if she's OK?".
My wife and I have had 2 more Caesarians since, the last being performed in 18 minutes (I think it was because the doctor by then knew my wife's inner anatomy so well....). Hopefully any future deliveries will be "smoother" for you, Ogie.....
Regardless, congrats on the new addition!

Hat's off to Darsnan for showing solidarity with his wife by also having the caesarians performed.

Seriously, glad everything went so well.
