  • I Am Being Forced To See A Councilor

I admit, life has caught up with me.

A house that needs rehab, a kid on the way, and a job I don't want that looks like it is disappearing.

I would quit the job to work on the house and find a new job, but we need the insurance for the kid right now.

I would ditch the house, but we'd still need a place to live, and rent would be just as much as the mortgage.

I won't give up the kid.

Anyway, I've been having phone interviews, and I take an hour or two now and then to conduct these. I generally schedule them in the morning or in the afternoon. I also have been meeting with handymen to bid on doing some work. I also schedule them in the morning or the evening when in it's still light to see some of the work. I take the time off my time card, and boss hasn't had a problem with this... until today.

He tells me I've been leaving early and coming late and that my performance is slacking. I disagree, of course. Production has stopped for the entire year (poor management), where's the sense of urgancy?!

Still, if he doesn't want me to take the a couple hours here and there, fine, just say so. If he wants more production out of me, even though it will do him no good, fine. However, I am given vacation time for a reason. Also, I get my required work done. He approves of my timelines, and then expects me to get things done sooner! Why the nerve!

Still, he tells me he wants me to see a councilor to work out my issues and better balance my time (meaning; no vacation for you buddy). This is so BS, I want to quit this job so bad!

    What should I do?

I am off to see a councilor, of course, but with everything else.

Do your phone interviews at work if there's no work to do.

Japher, just lie down on the couch, let me grab my clipboard and pen, and you just tell me everything on your mind -- including your secret love for Cher.

daylight savings is here. Offer to come in early so you can leave early. This way, you can see the contractors during daylight hours and also schedule phone interviews for the late afternoon. You will be there for the required hours and the boss should be happy.

Hilarious spelling mistake in the title. I wondered what the local council wanted with you.

                Good luck though.

I have been doing the opposite. I leave 8 hours from when I get in... He's still pissed. I can try the opposite, but I don't think it will change things.

I've pretty much had it with this job. The management is coming down hard on a lot of folk in this outfit. Mainly, I feel it's because this whole product is in jeopardy and they just need something to harp on. I, for one, do not like being the punching bag.

I definitly need to talk to someone, and this person ain't getting back to me.

The spelling is right (by US standards), but you used the wrong word

No, it's spelt counsellor. The US, for some utterly deranged reason, spells it 'counselor'...
