I found out my Congressman was coming to visit the place I volunteer at. The main topic was homelessness, but I thought I could dig up some info on evoting fraud (that a MIT/Caltech study was an intentional fraud, not an honest mistake as they claimed). In addition to my own research, I asked for help on another forum. I later realized that it was unlikely that I was going to get the data I wanted, and the difference between fraud and stupidity was small in peoples minds. I had the choice to close or delete the thread. If I'd closed the thread, I would have changed the first post to an explanation of how things had changed, and added what was the first post to the second.
If I'd closed the thread, people might have seen the thread's name, done research, and tried to post there without seeing the closed icon.
If I'd deleted the thread, there would be no explanation why and people might get frustrated that they couldn't find the thread.
I chose to delete it.
What would you do?
