    But who needs HDTV anyway?
Who needs TV? Our societies would get by fine without it. I watch incredibly little of it.

On the other hand, whether the marginal improvement in entertainment by going from standard TV to HDTV is worth the switch can only be judged on a personal level after having seen the difference on various programming. For big screens, the difference is rather immense, but again, people have different cost/reward profiles on this.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

So because you don't like the benefits of a forced upgrade to digital, it is bad?

Remember that analog TV is a frequency hog. Since the airwaves are owned by the people, if you can fit the existing stations into a smaller amount of frequency, the frequency that is freed up can be auctioned to the private sector or used otherwise.

Oh, it isn´t just me. There´s been a lot of discussions on this issue in swedish media.

Then perhaps Sweden does not deserve to exist any longer

Well, that´s true I suppose. But still, what irks me is that we´re forced to pay a license fee for owning a TV set and pay good money for a digital decoder at the same time.
