In fact, I have more respect for these people than people who willingly sit through crappy movies sitting on their ass eating popcorn and other junk food. At least these geeks are getting off their asses and doing something that entertains them. They don't sit around complaining: "I'm bored". They make their own adventures.

I know quite a few LARPers. It's just like unscripted acting, although that Darkon thing appears to be on a pretty large-scale. Personally, I never have enough time and barely enough inclination to sustain the character I was born with, let alone 'live' another, and certainly not on film.
I find it amusing how scifi/fantasy nerds have arrived at exactly the same place as history nerds and drama nerds: dressing up in silly clothes and hitting one another with sticks.Concrete, Abstract, or Squoingy?

But is it really any more stupid than actors in a movie? True, they aren't vey good actors. But they are just acting. We don't make fun of Ben Afflect do we? hmm, well that's not a good example. But you get my point.

Larpers.
There was a guy in my old shadowbane guild who was some high-up in the police/legal hierarchy in Toronto who belongs to the Society for Creative Anachronism and spends his spare time making suits of armour out of sheet metal and beating people with batons.Rethink Refuse Reduce Reuse
