Anyway, my thinking on ethics seems to be going back and forth between Kantianism and Negative Utilitarianism (a form of utilitarianism that emphasizes trying to minimize misery instead of maximizing happiness)
My basic ethical beliefs are that:
1. People should never be treated solely as means (AKA, as cogs in a machine) but as ends unto themselves, that is, individuals with thier own needs, wants, dreams, ideals and desire for self-actualization.
2. Actions are moral if they result in the reduction of misery while and doesn't violate rule #1.
3. One should aim for reducing involuntary suffering rather them maximizing happiness because what makes someone happy differers from one individual to another.
