See the American version of "The Ring" over "Ringu." The original Japanese version is kinda dull. The American version is superior, though not flawless.

"Ringu 1" has it's moments. I enjoyed it, and found it pleasantly eery ( though I must admit that "The Ring" was much better, and truly scary to me)

      "The body snatchers"

Movie traumatised me for years ( yes...I was little when I saw it)

btw, "The return of the body snatchers" is perhaps out of the funnier movies I've saw.

The original Invasion of the body snatchers was quite terrifying, but then I was only about 10 years old when I saw it.

Alien still tops the chart for horror for me.
I saw it in a prescreening so didn't have any of the good parts spoiled.

The original Amityville Horror is bad, don't bother with it. Not particularly scary, kinda slow and horrendous acting. It gets pretty silly by the end, too.

I really like Lady in White - plenty of atmosphere and a few good frights. Excellent old-school type horror.

horror movies suck. They were only scary when I was a kid. Poltergeist was one that scared me. It's still pretty good today.

The shining was pretty good movie. It wasn't scary, but I still enjoyed it. original version of course.

It would have been nice to have had drugs to help stay awake during Ringu. Really, it was slow and dull. The American version was generally superior, although I did think it went to excessive lengths to explain things.

Hideo Nakata sucks. He has developed a stock set of imagery and situations which he reuses again and again. The man has virtually no subtlety. Look what happened when he took over for The Ring 2. Lame. The Grudge? Sucked. So did Ju-on. Bad, bad movies.

Verbinski took something that was okay and made it a lot better and then wisely stepped away.

Ah, I agree actually, brilliant film.

Watched it at 4am after getting in from a club and it actually kept me awake for the full length of the film. Thats a v rare feat these days, must have been a truly scary film.

As a rule of thumb, american remakes suck. Even if they are made by the one who made them initially. Strange but true... I think the problems are that americans are destroyed by the crap they get force fed with from Hollywood. And of course actually being in the system ****s you up as well, no matter how good you were before you got there. Take Luc Besson for instance, before going to Hollywood he made classics like Subway, Le Grande Bleu and Nikita. After? The Fifth Element and Joan of Arc??

And as americans couldn´t see quality if it bit them in the ass we get dumbed down versions of classic japanese or european movies. Movies that will suit the american pallet, bland, tasteless and utterly stupid. I mean could you imagine a Hollywood version of Tarkovskijs "Stalker"? No... The crappy remake of "Solaris" says it all. Art is something no one in Hollywood can spell or even comprehend. The only thing that goes is money and putting out crap to entertain a bunch of yahoos that can´t be arsed to read a subtitle or even follow a plot that a moderately intelligent monkey could follow with ease.
