i dont see why DanS is so surprised by what chirac said.
    Who said I was surprised?
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

        Chirac

His perception of the global Anglo-Saxon threat is pretty much in tune with mine.

A French Non to the EU constitution will "boomerang" against France and delight "Anglo-Saxon" opponents of a powerful Europe, President Jacques Chirac said.
/me is proud to call himself an anglo-saxon opponent of a powerful europe.

What would be really funny would be the French No vote being followed by a Brit Yes vote because the death of the last Brit automotive company could help Brits to think that unlimited liberalism is not as good as claimed by the current fashionable economic theory.

The manufacturing industry in the US has also been killed for the same reason, but as God was never interested in this subject (as you know, there is no mention in the Bible), corrective actions were not taken, and will not be taken in the future, that is before the end of the word, which is anticipated before long.
              Statistical anomaly.

They have the Academie Francaise to keep out le weekend, le shopping, le sandwich and le red hot jazz baby, but French people will persist in buying food at Marks and Spencer's, wearing Levi's jeans, and listening to Massive Attack, Skunk Anansie and watching Alfred Hitchcock films and 'Blade Runner' .

I'm reliably informed, they even like Edgar Allan Poe and American film noir. Or should that be filme black ?

Or does American use of French words still count as Anglo-Saxon domination, or is it permissible ?

In Chirac's mind no election issue is to lowly to bring anti-Americanism in to blame.

Did you know? These three words are used "as is" in France, and have no French equivalent outside of Québec.

"film" is the French word as well

To be fair with Chirac, it's merely a cheap and demagogic argument. Chirac isn't obsessed with antiamericanism. He's obsessed with winning. Demagogery has always been his forte, and his amazing repertoire isn't limited to antiamericanism (in the current case, it's more about anti-Englishism really)

Except for sandwich. We use that one too.

                            Chirac is a nationalistc ditzhead.

                            Nationalism promoting supranationalism?

I see my boycott is having an effect. Now the French will destroy the EU and throw Chirac out. Everything is going according to plan.
Yep... throw Chirac out. And then whom will they replace him with? Le Pen, A neo-fascist nut? Jospin, A Socialist? (don't think the US would like that...). You can hate Chirac as much as you like, but you know he'll only ever be replaced by another Frenchman.

I think Chirac lamenting the invasion of anglo-saxon culture into France is a little rich however. Only 200 years ago they were trying to do the same to the rest of Europe.... and in 1066 they made certain that a large slice of "anglo-saxon" culture would forever be French....

So your saying that Chirac is the best they can possibly do? That's pretty sad don't you think.
