Woohoo, Nats win their home opener!

Just beat Arizona 5-3 in their home opener. I have no expectations of this ever actually lasting, but right now the Washington Nationals are first in the NL East! Now, this is still the team that was in the cellar last year as the Expos, so I don't actually expect them to be contending or anything, however they have looked pretty good so far, winning series against Atlanta and Philadelphia.

Right now the Red Sox have taken an 8-5 lead over the Yanks. That's good, any games the Yanks lose is a definite bonus. With Tampa Bay winning, then if the Sox also wins we have another pleasurable but temporary situation with Boston and New York being tied for last place in the AL East along with Tampa Bay. I rooted for Boston in the playoffs last year to beat the curse, but now that they have I feel I am free to hate them. It's unlikely, but it would be great to see either the Yankees or the Red Sox miss the playoffs.

Any other thoughts as to the goings on in Early Season Baseball?

Huh? I pasted that post into MS Word first and it didn't catch any spelling errors.

            The Nats.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

Wow... after an 0-5 start, the METS have just won 4 straight, with a SWEEP of the Astos. The NL East is looking mighty interesting so far.

In that NYY-BOS game last night it looked like the fan was reaching for the ball, not taking a swing at Sheffield. It must have been clear to baseball officials that he was taking a swing otherwise Sheffield would have been ejected. Sheffield said he was punched - I guess they just went with his side of the story..

Probably. I guess it more in the interest of baseball not to do anything which would cause the reputation of it's players to decrease.

First... the fan should NOT have reached into the field of play for the ball. If it's out of play, that's one thing... but not the case here. The fan was ejected from the ball park, as he should have been.

Most experts that have reviewed the film say that Sheffield didn't do anything to deserve being ejected.

Considering what the Yankees did the O'si in the ALCS some years back, I think all fans should have a perfect righ to reach into the field of play against the Yankee Scum.
