  • getting a lube... as in jiffy lube ... as in oil change

lol.. i can see the title of this event is going to go into the gutter no matter how i label it... anyway...

took my car to get the oil changed yesterday.
    seemed like everything was fine..
    drove around doing some errands..
picked up my son from work.
    took my daughter to school
but by this afternoon.. when i went to pick her up from school
the car felt odd... and by the time i got to the school
    it was making a racket...
by the time i got home.. only a few blocks
it was smoking and making racket.
i poped the hood.... it was empty of oil
    nada none.. zippo oil
    i called the jiffy lube
within half an hour the manager was in my driveway
putting new oil in my car, replacing the oil filter
which the one that was put on there yesterday
had not been tightened... so all the oil just ran out of my car
as i drove around... because there was no oil on my drive way
    last night.
as the manager poured the new oil into the car
it just ran onto my driveway...
thats when the manger put on a new filter.

    soooooo
im taking the car to "my" mechanic tomorrow
and they are paying for a check up and any damages
    done.
also the manager was in my driveway
    cleaning up the oil..

and i believe the tech who changed the filter at the shop
well hes in the unemployment line i imagine..
    the manager was pretty upset.

im glad for the good response
was worried i was going to have to pay for all and sue..
and rant and rave to get anything done.
    but they surprised me.

first time ive had trouble using jiffy lube.
i hope my car is ok...
my husband flew to texas to buy that car for me.

running the engine without oil could have very well ruined the engine. And I'm sure messed up the clearances.

as for the title, I'll restrain myself for once.

I've known of these kinds of problems at Jiffy lube myself. Though it could happen at any quick lube place. My mom has had problems there as well (when they check other stuff)

But I never have. I go there all the time.

I've heard of this happening, or where mechanics forget to put the cap back on, allowing the oil to spew all over the engine.

      I recommend an IP ban.

        Could've, but it didn't, fortunately.

            it is very
            fortunate that you
            do indeed have
            such a good honest place

This happened to my roommate in College. He had to have his car towed to Memphis, about an hour away, to get it repaired. He had a volvo, or a vw, can't recall which, no repairshops in town that were worth going to.

at the very least you shortened the life of the engine. Without oil, there will be a lot of metal damage between parts in the engine. You are going to have slightly larger clearances between parts in the engine. I'm not mechanic, so I have no idea what overall effect this will have. Perhaps just as minor as reduced horsepower.
