I think what my team was working on was interesting science-wise and we even went and retained some E/M professors to help us with the problem. Can't talk much more in the clear though...

I have a new role, which is sort of strategy/business development, but I'm dissatisfied with the title and rank. Getting antsy to look elsewhere but a little disatsfied with myself

that is you always though, I think

probably helps to be successful at things though, if you are too comfortable most people aren't as productive

I am hopping to get working with a guy on phase transition stuff, have been talking to him about problems (and learning a lot) and he should be looking for a student

the bad thing is that whenever I feel that I am on the spot, I can't think, and so appear unknowledgable

also I am a bit rusty

you need to buckle down. I think you are a little scared of really competing all out and coming up short. But you have a lot to offer. I advise doing something in CM. There are so many cool problems. Also don't look down on experimentation. There are lots of experimental things where technique is not so important, problem-solving skills more so.

How are you still in the program if you haven't picked an advisor yet? What is status of your cums?

I have passed all tests and taken every class I need to (although there are still a few more classes I could take)

just need an advisor, which I have been shy of

I actually have been talking to this guy for a whiel now, I just keep sounding stupid and so am afraid to ask him to take me as his student

Really? Are Russians disenfranchised in Russia?

If true, I think it is terrible. How did they let them in EU with such discrimination?

Monolingual Russians. Bilinguals get to be citizens. Children of citizens get to be citizens.

There's no mass exodus of Russians to the paradise in the East. They aren't significantly discriminated against. They just don't get to be citizens without learning the language of the land.

Think of it as a Native American territory gaining independence from the States and only giving citizenship to those whose ancestors had been there a hundred years ago and to those who can pass a literacy test in Apache. The newcomer anglophones aren't pressured to do anything.

                                It's still discrimination.
