Off the record Alaska needs to raise the state income tax, create a state-wide sales tax, and steal the PFD from the people. God forbid they should do this and we see our educational system improve ten-fold.

      I miss Delaware.

Their schools sucked but not as bad as Georgia's and they didn't have the fundie mentality to boot.

Your right it is not as high but you forgot to mention that any time a property changes ownership the valuation immediately changes to the most recent sale price. That means the house I bought just under a year ago had to pay $2000 per year last year but this year will cost almost $6000.

What I find disturbing is that people whine and ***** about thier income taxes, but don't whine about sales taxes and other flat taxes which often affect the people with less money more. Ignorance or right-wing brainwashing?

Oh, here in Minnesota a tax increase is desperately needed to pay for healthcare, K-12 education, and higher education (students enrolled in public colleges and universities are getting VERY pissed off about tuition increases around here), but our Republican governor has threatened to veto any tax increase, it led to gridlock galore last year.

            #36 Oregon 9.60%

            ...No sales tax either.

Politicians in Salem always think up new taxes and Oregon voters always shoot em down.

Thats the thing, people want thier government services, but people don't want to pay for them. The result? Deficit spending because raising taxes and cutting services are both are political suicide.

That burden reflects what residents pay in state and local income taxes, property taxes, sales taxes, luxury taxes and fuel taxes, among others. States below are ranked from least to most tax friendly.

According to you guys, the Repubs have been cutting services since Reagan got elected.

If actual services have been cut as claimed, and then the Repubs not only keep the Presidency but are able to increase their base and power (both nationwide and on a state level), how do you reconcile the quoted belief with actual historical fact?

Um... JohnT... I think you are going to get seriously PWNED soon. Che and Odin were USING the opening post which includes sales tax and other taxes to make their point that everyone *****es about "Taxachusetts" based solely on income taxes, but when you take all of the taxes, it isn't even close to the top.

                            You've missed their point entirely.
