I sat about 10 rows behind President Bush at tonight's mass at the cathedral. He came even though there wasn't any security and he's not catholic. I appreciate that.

Cardinal McCarrick reminded us that the pope stared down facism as well as communism. Since he was pope ever since I can remember, I guess I just viewed him as as only a pope from my time. But there's a lot that that he did in 84 years as a student, priest, bishop, cardinal and Pope.

I'm happy to see him finally rest in peace, after a full life lived.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

He was a man who was exposed to great challenges throughout his life, responded superiorly to those challenges, and made the world a better place in the process. Rest in Peace Old Friend, and remember the world is forever in your debt for your accomplishments....

People all over the world, despite their still maintaining differences with him and his Church on all sorts of political, medical, religious and ideological matters, lament the death of the Pope. I share their sentiment.

Rest in Peace, John Paul II.

                        Requiescat in pacem.

This person is truly a giant of our time, who had a profound impact on the Church he led and on the world around him. He was a great moral leader and will be missed.

I actually got to see him when he came to san antonio hope the catholic church can find a suitable replacement.

While I am not a Catholic nor did I agree with some of what he did, he left this world a *better* place than when he came into it. In my eyes, that's all that counts in the end.

I am also one of nthese people who aren´t catholics and don´t agree with many of the things he said and did.
But there were enough things to earn him my respect. For example that his communication with "ordinary people" and the youth, or his strict anti war stance (although his condemning of wars didn´t stop any war from happening)

                                May he rest in peace
