not to paper things over with false solutions. That is worse than just saying we can't do anything about it. At least we can keep the pressure on an hope for something to come up if we don't give in to crappy false solutions.

I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

What the hell are you babling about?

What "false solution"? The 1994 agreed framework got NK to freeze it plutonium production and to put all its materials under safe inspections.

What was founf out is that NK began a uranium enrichment program, which was under development when the US found it. The Bush admin. refused to deal again, and it was at that point that NK took the plutonium out of storage and made it into bombs.

So lets look at the simple facts: The Carter deal keeps NK from making nukes for 8 years, keeps large amounts of Plutonium in verified storage and NK in the NPT.

Your supposed strategy of not making deals: NK ends with a uranium enrichment AND tens of kilograms of Plutonium, leaves the NPT and supposedly today may have multiple nukes.

OH, yeah, that worked so well.

But if you are so eager for war, why don;t you invade the NK alone? In fact, please do, you can begain by clearing the minefields manually. That should be fun to watch.

what was found was that NK didn't abide by its deal and we should do more? And why the heck should we help them build a general nuclear science capability as part of a disarmament treaty!? I know nuke crap. Beleive me the people and the skills and lots of the basic equipment is extremely transferrable. If I were a renegade nation wanting nukes, first think I would do is develope a civilian program.

                  Interesting article

And as always, North Korea manages to be even more bizarre than the average stalinist regime.

I still haven't heard a workable solution. It is very easy to attack someone else efforts and it is all well an good to say we shouldn't paper things over but where, oh where, is the "do this, then do that, North Korea is now fixed" plan? Not a detail has yet been uttered.

Just coming up with agreements to have an agreement or to say "look how hard we're working" is counterproductive, Oerdin. It's nice for internal poilitics, but hurts the external situation. Instead we should have maintained the policy of external pressure, rather than coming up with a sham agreement that they did not abide by.

Fine we agree. Now how do you solve the problem? I'm looking for a plan here.

I think maintaining pressure on NK. Definitely NOT having unilateral talks. That is an excuse to get butt****ed for not coming up with paper agreement. that is a way to go backwards. Not force, but of course the warplans and exercises need to be ready. Mostly just a little cold war.
