I'm just waiting for affirmative action for Republicans...

You won't have long to wait.

Won't that be delicious? AA is not OK if it's to help the underprivileged, but it's fine to promote discussion on the reality of evolution.

Actually, I'm pretty sure the wait will be a very, very long one...

I don't see why you should worry. The ideas of the right that have the most merit, like market economics get a fair hearing on campus.

Err, which political party is associated with attempts to ban the teaching of evolution in highschools?
Not the GOP. Besides, GM crops are thriving in the red states.

Which one wants to shut down the research on stem cells?
Not the GOP. In fact, most Republicans would support federal funds for the search for sources of stem cells other than embryos. Pretty successfully, I might add.

Personally, I'm skeptical of government funding for R&D in general. And this would encompass embryonic stem cell research.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

Cheers for bringing up that thread Boris. I see Ramo has set himself up rather well as a target. I hope he sees it.

do you realise how little R&D would get done without government funding?

It was, around 5 years ago.

Would you believe me if I said that I've changed since you last saw me?

A majority of R&D is not government funded nowadays, and that which is government-funded is predominately defense-oriented and probably not well spent. It is true that some areas are better funded by non-governmental entities than others, on the other hand.
