I've observed that remembering dreams is more likely when you sleep longer. But this is probably because when you sleep naturally, i.e. wake up by yourself as opposed to an alarm, the shock from waking up won't erase the memory. Or something, perhaps there's something at the end of the natural sleep cycle that allows you to remember the latest dream you had (over several hours you usually see quite a few of them).
