E-book Readers

I'm travelling over the Summer, and don't want to haul around a suitcase full of books, so am looking at E-book readers.

Does anyone use them? Any particularly good ones? Are they all useless expensive pieces of crap? Is it better to just get a PDA rather than a dedicated reader? Or is there technology on the horizon making these things a whole lot cheaper?

Is it better to just get a PDA rather than a dedicated reader?

I can't stand reading a book on a computer monitor. I can't imagine myself reading a book on lousy PDA screen.

Or is there technology on the horizon making these things a whole lot cheaper?
