Sava: I think you are definitely a social-democrat however. The verycore of social-democracy's ideology is the belief that capitalism produces the richest society, but that it requires regulation and wealth-redistribution so that everybody can enjoy the system.

        Liberal.

But I have to say this is a ridiculous poll if you happen to be a non-socialist European.

well I'm against direct wealth distribution... and I'm a little bit too much of a fiscal conservative to be a social-democrat, however, I must admit that I would most likely vote for a social democrat party if there was one in America.

I have a few problems with most social democrat platforms.

          1. I am pro-death penalty (but support moratoriums in order to investigate flaws in the justice system)

          2. I do not support total nuclear disarmament (I think nuclear arms do serve as a deterent to war)

          3. AFAIK, their belief in the need for regulated capitalism is more ideological than pragmatic (meaning that I would support less regulation in situations where the market can self-regulate and keep abuses in check)

As I said before, Teddy Roosevelt is the one America leader that I most identify with.

          Progressive domestic policies
          regulation of corporations and trusts
          pro-environment
interventionalist foreign policy stressing diplomatic engagement before the use of force (speak softly but carry a big stick)
strong, but not overwhelming, sense of national pride (USA USA USA)
belief that America should be the strongest nation in the world
To us, it is the BEAST.

In Minnesota, most Republican governors we hav had in the 1900's have been Teddy-style Progressives (the late Governor Elmer Anderson being a relatively well know example. We really haven't had a strong uber-conservative movement until the Republicans sucked in people in the southern and western parts of the state. Now we are stck with scumbags like Tim Pawlenty and Norm Coleman (go back to NY you carpet-bagging ass-hole! ). I think all of our living Republican former governors voted for KERRY! Minnesotans really tears the traditional Left/Right dicotomy to shreads because people hear tend to be socially conservative but economically liberal, in true progressive style.

I will smite the next person who uses "economically liberal" to mean "economically left-wing" with my uberdeadly vorpal sword.

Oh wah, cry me a river. I was using "liberal" in the American sense, not the classical sense.
