  • Anyone with DVR - Is this right?

So, if my DVR is set to record something, and I'm watching TV at the time it starts, the recording happens unnoticed, no problem.

But, if the TV is off when the DVR starts, it will turn the TV on without any sound. If I change the channel, I can't get any sound at all on any channel. I have to wait for the frickin' recording to stop before I can get sound back.

Note that the TV hooked up to a receiver and stereo system, but I can't get sound through either if the above is the case.

Is this normal? I can't fathom why this would be the case. I have a suspicion the Comcast cable guy botched the setup of the DVR in other ways, as well...

No, that's not normal for me. I have COMCAST's DVR. If I try to switch channels when I'm recording two programs (I have a dual tuner DVR) it'll ask me if I want to stop the recording and change channel.

Never had problem with sound. May want to call the cable company.

There's little choice. Only cable company in town, and I wouldn't do satellite again if you paid me.

Yeah, it's a problem with your specific DVR... get Comcast to come back.

Yeah, I can record two channels at once, but never have so far. Just one program at a time.

It seems the idiot cable guy also didn't leave a manual.

My DVR doesn't turn my TV on either. Does your DVR have an outlet that you plugged the TV into?

                ACK!

DEFINITE problem with your cable guy. The manual is essential. I recorded two channels last night with West Wing and Alias. It worked great.

I don't lose any sound with my DVR at all. It may be how it is hooked up to the reciever and sound system (perhaps).
