Aren't those just desktop shortcuts in boxes with extra display functionality (ie, status reports, widgets)?

At least, that's how WindowMaker was when I used it at school.

      You said...

There's nothing like the dock or quicklaunch in OpenStep or NeXTSTEP.

The NeXT Dock is just the OS X Dock without the right hand portion. I'm not sure if it has contextual menus like the OS X Dock does, but it managed workspaces and all sorts of of other crap IIRC, so it was more than just a launcher.

There's an open source version of NeXTSTEP out there if you want to try it. Windowmaker was a ripoff IIRC.
      Only feebs vote.

Purty? Is that 'puke' misspelled? It doesn't look good while it's almost completely useless. My version of the "quicklaunch" bar is just as fast while looking better (and gives more possibilities)... sure, it doesn't look like the quicklanch bar, but that's one of it's positive sides
This space is empty... or is it?
