I wish there was some way of finding out.

As I don't have medical care, and I'm worried what I'll do if something happens.

My dad essentually drank himself to death. But he had some problem with his pancreas or something, and he was admitted to the VA hospital I think (like I said, I was overseas on a ship- communication is impossible on a ship). You usually have to wait in long lines and long appoitment times, but VA hospitals are better than nothing I guess.

And I don't think my dad was a vietnam vet. He was stateside airforce only till 1962 or so.

A Vet is someone who has served for more than 120 days active and not for training purpose only.

Before the last two wars, unless a N. Guardman/woman was call up for regular duty, that is do his/her 2 years active, they were not consider vets.

All others (USA, USAF, USCG, USMC, and USN) are vets the day that they are discharge or retired.

If any service member is injured in the line of duty, they are covered.

I was on a training mission when I was in the Navy (Project SHAD) Last year because of that mission, I received a letter from the Vet Admin., and they told me in the letter that I can now received medical treatment from the Vet Hosp. for free if I become ill.

Now the bad. Some in Congress only want people who served wartime and in the war zone to be Vets. Other just want retiree to be vets, and some said there should be time limits on Vets, like 10 years or so.

You are a Vet and don't let anyone tell you, that you are not.

I'm covered so the Republicans can screw the rest of you.

Seriously Bush's priorities are all screwed up. He gives $200 billion for a completely unneeded corporate pork barrel project with his Star Wars program and he cuts $350 million from VA benifits because they just cost to much. We need to take care of our vets before we waste more money to subsidize Halliburton and Bush's other corporate friends.

Those of us who did not go to Nam were called Vietnam Era Vets and not Vietnam Vets.
However Vietnam Era started in Aug. 1964 to I think March of 73. The Gulf of Tongking Resolution pass by congress in Aug 0f 64.
