    • I cannot understand how some of you can support this decision by the federal court? Any person that supports removing that feeding tube is a monster!

For goodness sake's, a serial killer in this country is put to death more humanely than Terri will be. At least, they get an injection that is quick and painless. If you want Terri to die so as to "ease her suffering", then give her an injection so as to kill her quickly and painlessly. Instead, you all want to just leave her to suffer for weeks until she slowly dies of starvation. That is horrible!
'There is a greater darkness than the one we fight. It is the darkness of the soul that has lost its way. The war we fight is not against powers and principalities, it is against chaos and despair. Greater than the death of flesh is the death of hope, the death of dreams. Against this peril we can never surrender. The future is all around us, waiting, in moments of transition, to be born in moments of revelation. No one knows the shape of that future or where it will take us. We know only that it is always born in pain.'"

I think most people who support the removal of her feeding tube would consider that a better solution. That said, I'd rather have some suffering now (where apparently non will be) than to keep this lingering on for years to come.

          1. Terry is PVS- she won;t feel a thing- and will die of kidney failure, not "starvation or thirst". This has been said many times over. Get with the program.
          2. Its illegal under Florida court to euthenise. Maybe if the State of Florida stopped living in the past and gave that option, this sorry mess would be over.

          • sorry to say this...but how can congress say that they care about one person in a coma and not care about those thousands and millions without healthcare and dying in wars...THAT IS THE BIG PROBLEM OF THE US...THE DUALISME.....caring about 1 life because of 'moral' and 'religious' reasons...and not about MANY MANY MANY others because of 'economic' reasons

maybe already said but i had to say it

Now the Repubs have managed to do something stupid enought to put them in an even more unfavorable light as it hides the Dems own embarrassment by sucking away all of the media oxygen from the SS issue.
I can only think that you haven't read what's been going on and made this up in your head.

The Dems enjoy pretty strong majority opinion support on the SS issue. That's precisely the reason why it's moribund in Congress--The GOP know that public opinion is vastly against, Bush has failed to make a case and it's a loser issue for them. There's a reason why their approval ratings over the past two months have sunk while the Dems' prospects have risen.

Carla Sauer Iyer, Terri's nurse in 1985, has said that Terri does feel pain. She has also testified that when Terri developped an infection that her husband said "when is that ***** going to die?". This just proves that Terri's husband does not have Terri's best interests at heart. Terri has become inconvenient for him, so he wants her to die. I am infuriated that he is going to be allowed to use the law to murder an innocent person. And make no mistake: that's what this whole story is about.

You can live in denial and pretend that killing Terri is ok. The facts are the facts: Terri can feel pain, is conscious, and is alive. Removing that tube is murder. It's just legalized murder, so you can feel good about yourself.

I refuse to "get with the program", when the program is murdering innocent people!

The right thing to do is keep Terri alive. Why are some people so eager to end life when it becomes inconvenient?

Must be absolutely bliss when you can simplify an otherwise extreemly complicated issue like this to just black and white.

                          • To be fair, the facts are very much in doubt. Both those who say she definitely does feel pain and those who say she definitely doesn't are speculating. I admit to having a bit more sympathy for those who err on the side of caution, though...

She has no chance of recovery. She has zero cortical activity. She can not feel, she can not think. Everything that made her what she was is long since gone. And there is zero--zero--chance of recovering any of that.

Yet, she is not dead. Not legally. She still has brainstem function--reflexes, breathing. But she has no cognitive presence whatsoever. Whether or not that makes her dead in a philosophical sense is debatable.
