That is the other possible choice, besides the one of him having alterior and selfish motives that are central to his desire.
Maybe if the parents are willing to do so he can walk away. He has already madeanew life for himself why keep a hold of this brain dead wife that others want to care for?

I wasn't trying to insult you. If I wanted to insult you I would insult you.

        No kidding?

But the parents have made it clear they would not end her vegetative state.

We don't know, and in the end its not our business, nor that of the Governor of Florida, the legislature, or Congress. The two parties fought it out in court, and the husband has won.

          • Gepap I know that already. I wonder why this guy fought so hard to kill her off. Granted she didnt have a real life to begin with well not one any of us could have understood, but why was it so important to him to let her die when her parents would have taken responsibility of her.

            • the main problem I have with this case is they are forcing her to start/dehydrate to death!!

They should inject her with something that will kill her painlessly, not let her starve to death.

Common sense. Why do you keep ignoring the fact that he's been trying to pull the plug on her for years? He would've made a hefty sum of money if the parents hadn't fought him all these years...

Um, the fact you seem to be ignoring has been pointed out here several times. He's been offered millions of dollars to turn over his rights as decision-maker in this case--far more money than that "hefty sum" you claim. Common sense says that if he's continued fighting for Terri's right to die to the point that said "hefty sum" is now gone and he's refused other heftier sums, that he must have some other interest.

                          Unfortunately, in Florida, that's murder.

                          • Not really. I wouldn't take the outside offers either; doing so would make it pretty clear that you were only concerned about the money, not your wife's well being. All the money in the world won't repair your reputation if the public sees you in that way.

Holding out for the court to allow you to pull the feeding tube and thereby keeping the rest of the malpractice suit award offers the best of both worlds, though. It's unfortunate that the parents had to fight and prevent you from hitting the jackpot, but $50,000 ain't chump change...

                            • Talk about "tortured reasoning." If he had walked away when the offers were first presented, he'd have millions in the bank and it wouldn't have achieved the level of national circus that it currently has. Any such damage to his "reputation" would quickly be forgotten, and it's not as if he would care, since he would have the cash he wanted.

But now thanks to the ultra-right's smear campaign and their nationalizing what should be just a family issue, his reputation has undergone far more damage than it would have otherwise (thanks to folks like you who are quick to smear him with out any evidence) and, what's more, there's no "hefty sum" left. Do you really think he would consider $50,000 worth the years spent in this struggle and what people have done to defame him? That's some of the dumbest logic I've read in a while.

He doesn't really have a choice, does he? He ordered the folks at the nursing home to not resuscitate her starting in 1993. He would have made off like a champ had things went his way then. Unfortunately the parents put up a fight and he's been blowing the money meant to go for her medical fees on legal fees ever since. He's got offers from people to give up the rights, but they're obviously supportive of the parents and you have to figure that they won't keep quiet about you taking the money and running. Too much risk of public shaming there. So, he's stuck watching the money drain away, trying to pull the plug before it's all gone.

                                Hypothetically speaking, of course...
