  • IRA murders man, sisters speak out.

A man in Northern Ireland was murdered for speaking out against the IRA's campaign of killing people who publically speak out against the terrorist organisation. This week the man's six sisters have gone on a tour to America in order to inform Americans about the true brutality of the IRA and how the IRA murdered their brother. Sinn Fein, the IRA's political arm, publically told the women that opposing the IRA could mean a death sentence for them but the women have sworen to go on any way; they are currently in America and are scheduled to meet President Bush and members of Congress in order to inform them of the IRA's continuing terrorist activitiies.

The world needs more brave people like this.

As I said in my "Kennedy snubs Sinn Fein thread", this is good news at last. The USA's continued dealing with Sinn Fein/IRA until this point has been a huge blot on their supposed 'War on Terror'.

There is now real pressure on Adams and Co. to get rid of the IRA once and for all. The writing's on the wall.

Adams said he was disappointed by the public snub but did not feel it indicated U.S. support for the Northern Ireland peace process was waning.
Well duh Gerry. The USA it taking a hard line against you and your terrorist colleagues at last; surely there can be no greater indication that the USA is committed to the peace process.

For once there are very good signs. Peter King (R-NY), who was traditionally the IRA's biggest supporter in Congress, has publicly called for the IRA to disarm and give up terrorism. Reportedly, Mr. King’s about face is because of President Bush's personal stance that anyone supporting terrorism or terrorist organizations is not welcome in the Republican Party. Traditionally, Republicans have tried to use support for the IRA as a way to win votes in the mid-Atlantic and New England states. On the other side, Senator Ted Kennedy (brother of the former President) has cut all contact with Sinn Fein since the break down of the Northern Irish self ruling government. Traditionally Mr. Kennedy, who is Irish-American, has hosted Sinn Fein at a St. Patrick's Day dinner since the signing of the Good Friday Accord but since the break down of the Northern Ireland Government Senator Kennedy has refused to meet with Sinn Fein.

I just wish they would make giving money to Sinn Fein a crime so they could imprison the bastards who give these terrorists gun money.

IRA have moved from being a terrorist organisation to being pretty much an organised crime gang, like the Mafia or something. Actually they always had a lot of organised crime, protection rackets etc. stuff going on to raise money to blow up little children with.

The fundraising from a small amount of Irish Americans was always disgraceful, good on these sisters for going out there to tell people stuff. This story's been running here for a few weeks, it's really incredible. 2 Sinn Fein candidates were in the pub outside which this guy was murdered. Sinn Fein suspended several members over the incident, the IRA expelled several more. And then the IRA even offered that they would have the murderers shot if the sisters wanted. They quite rightly said they wanted the murderers brought to justice.

Of course, no-one will talk to the police/testify, too scared and who can really blame them.

I'd say their emphasis has shifted, that's all.

No longer can they justify funding 'The Struggle' with 'political' bank raids in the Six Counties and the Republic of Ireland and susbidies from Muammar Gadaffi, so they just adopt the fall back position of being not quite 'smooth criminals' .

Rather like the Protestant paramilitaries and drug dealing in the North.

It is a crime and always has been. That's why money is given to "Irish Relief" organizations, and such.

I thought the guy just got knifed in a drunken pub argument? Admittedly by IRA members, so he probably said something silly but in this case it'd be similar to insulting a gang member in LA or a mafiosi in St petersburg, i.e. a stupid thing to do.

There's no contradiction. Just because something is a crime doesn't mean I can't support it.
