Chelsea bought Dede in my game and he's valued at 20m.

See... it was smart biz. Like signing Freddy Adu.

You could probably get close to 30 mil for him now.

Yeah, but what fun is it in getting a world beater? I quite like Rasmussen and Downing... now if I could just sell Robert (who is now at the reserves).

I'm quite found of Ramussen... and Downing has had some great crosses for me this season.

When Shearer leaves, I have Claudio Lopez coming in. I've made Shearer a player/coach until he retires and I'm trying to persuade him to come back (this is 2006, btw).

What's this other football manager game that's less arcade action and more management? Alternatively could you set CM to play itself?

Theres no football manager game more management than Football Manager AFAIK. There is the Champ Manager series that carried on after Sports Interactive left, but its not half as good as FM ive heard, and I wouldnt try it anyway, its basically now a cheap knock off since SI took the database with them to make FM.

I know you could go on holiday as manager and the game would play on, with your assistant managing the team with various levels of control. Also if you get fired or retire the game carries on playing by itself if you dont apply for a new job.

Eh? I'm not aware of one.

Hm, is this the game that you need to play the matches in arcade game like fashion, or is this the one where you sit and watch?

Really? I swear, yell and cry.

I'm a glutton for punishment; I owned the original Football Manager by Kevin Toms.

It's pretty bad. I've resolved not to buy FM2005.

The last time I had a copy of Championship Manager I played 12 seasons as Fulham and didn't eat, sleep or work properly.

                          • Whew... had to shut down my FM 2005 game for the night. I just destroyed ManU in a Champions League Quarter Final (7-3 on aggregate). I KNOW I can't match that (in between, I tied West Brom 1-1 in an EPL match). So instead of getting all pissed at not being able to replacate... tomorrow I'll start again .

                            I swear, yell and cry.

                            Same here.

I kept James Flood, a lower division striker in my Fulham squad for years until he retired even though he was pretty hopeless in the P (after having been dynamite in my promotion campaigns).. He stayed happy though.

But I was rewarded, about a year before he retired, Fulham reached the UEFA cup final and injuries meant he was a sub. I was a goal down, we were playing hopelessly, and one of my forwards sustained an injury so he came on for the last half an hour.

Two headed goals from him later, we'd won the UEFA Cup - my only trophy at Fulham (we didn't have the money to do better, despite my cleaning up in the transfer market - they kept most of the money I made).

A pity that version didn't have testimonials - I would have given Flood a testimonial.

Yeah, a bit . That's why I can't get Dede. Rasmussen has to be either starter or backup on the left win, dammit!

And, of course, Shearer... who is now a player/coach .
