  • Ripping unrippable cds?

    How?

This one cd seems intent on my not ripping it. It won't even show up on My Computer as being in the drive.

Must be some hardcore copy protection. Wonder how they expect you to play the CD at the computer?

Have you tried Alcohol 120%? Its the only program I know of that will bypass copy protection and do actual 1:1 copies of CDs.

If you haven't try a google for it. You can get a demo that will work for a month I think.

        And there's always e-mule too

          This is damned annoying.

I guees you´ll have to do it the analogue way, then convert it to mp3. Ok, the sound quality won´t be spectacular, but that´s the only solution I can think of if you don´t find some kind of cracker for the copy protection...

Is there anything on the CD?

Yeah, I had this problem. I wanted to rip a Roy D Mercer CD (for my and only my personal use on this one computer), and it has one of those copy-protection things that uses Autoplay to immediately hide all the audio files on the CD when you try to play it on your PC.

Let me be the first to give a soaring eagle to whatever harebrained idiot thought this one up. ..|..

I guess the lesson learned is to keep Autoplay turned off. Lemme retry it with it off, see if that works.

                  EDIT; It works!

The CD-Rom drive cannot read it, I don't know what sort of protection they use and some of the earlier ones were pretty easy to overcome.

In any case, try it under linux and see if it works. Don't know the name of the ripping program. I think it's "grip" or something like that.

Autoplay? Is that the "copy protection" that's foiled by holding down shift while you insert the CD?

Atahualpa: Yep, grip is pretty popular, though some people swear by abcde. And in case you want a raw copy of the CD, you just copy it to a file .

Hard to copy it when the computer won't even recognize the CD contains data.

Could the CD itself be defective?
