These guys were losing money hand over fist. Given their situation, each person who flew for a dollar simply hastened the end since it would have cost more than a dollar to haul their added weight.

Yeah, there;s quite a bit of this in the UK. It's especially good when companies like Easyjet offer "tax free" flights, that aren't really, cos you still pay Euro taxes...
