I'm really interested about these options as well. I have made few threads about this in the past, and still have bookmarked some recommendations even though I have carefully examined them. Thanks to whoever posted the vanguard link earlier in my thread.

My problem is I don't have the capital now to be investing, but even though I won't be in a position to accumulate any real money soon (in few years) because I'm a full time student, and I'm struggling with the bills and food money anyway, but I'm thinking that I should make a move anyway, make some money somehow and put that aside and invest it safely and play a little. Learn the hoops in practice now, after going through lots of theory.

I have played this game, where I bought stocks etc, you know imaginary, and I've been following how they have been doing as if it was real, so I know how I would have done. Not too well, but I'm learning... slowly I admit, but still. Keep it coming, keep the good stuff rolling in.

100 a week? richie rich! I was thinkign I would be able to scrape 500 to 1000 after the whole summer, and that's if I don't party, wash me clothes and eat, and then suffer the coming winter and never go nowhere. 100 a week? Richie rich!!!!! I challenge you, let's wrestle for it. Every week, we wrestle for 100 bucks you provide.

yeah, im estimating that i will have a $10 per hour + job next month (after taxes.) food, wash are negligible (theres a credit system at my school for food, included in fees), so if i work 16 hours a week, thats $160 bucks a week, $640 per month. invest $100 of that a week, $400 per month, $12 fee per month for registration, thats $412 for investment still leaves $228 for whatever. $100 a week investment is not a lot for a student in my situation.

i dont have a car , so theres minimal expenses for transportation, and i live on campus, so housing is not a problem.

Doing paper tradings will never get you the gut-wrenching feeling when the market moves against you.

But I think you are doing the right thing here. Stock market is inherently a dangerous place that transfers wealth from the uninformed people to the informed.

if you're talking to me, then sure yeah it' snot the same. It's like gambling without money, or playing blackjack against yourself. Just not the same. However, I figure I don't have a lot of opportunities to mess things up and with my future small and moderate investments, I need to be doing it right rather than wrong. What I mean is, in the right direction, having some clue, and not play around with money to see how it works.

Whether trading or investing, use only the money you can afford to lose. If not, put it in a CD or inflation-index bond is the way to go.
