You mean their 'football' term? England invented both association football (soccer) and rugby football back in the early 1800s. The rugby football is the one that mostly led to the US version.
And I used the term European soccer to distinguish from South American soccer, African soccer, and Asian soccer.

That's the problem with March Madness. Most people are done after the first weekend (yes I had Wake in the Final four.) Damn. Well it's on to Baseball. The cubs offense is looking very good at manufacturing runs, and Prior and Wood seem to be on their way back woot!
Well, I have 3 out of my Final Four teams still alive (Illinois, Lousville, Duke). UConn was my one that fell. Of course, I've jinxed everything now .

Syracuse's Chamber of Commerce is absolutely aghast at Bonnie Bernstein's comments about hosting the Sweet 16 Regional:
Syracuse: What’s to Like?
Last Update: 3/23/2005 12:04:43 AM
As we’re about to welcome 20-thousand visitors to Syracuse this weekend, some hurtful words have been spoken about our town- the words of someone who -won't- be coming here for sweet 16 basketball and is glad of it.
CBS sports sideline reporter Bonnie Bernstein, writing in a campus edition of Sports Illustrated, said of Syracuse, “I know we'll get sent there because it's the coldest destination and the place where there's the least amount of things to do." Not at all flattering, is it? To Bonnie's relief, they sent her to Austin… but her words today landed with a dull thud at the Chamber of Commerce. That’s where reporter Michael Riecke started his quest for "What's to Like" about Syracuse:
CBS Sports reporter Bonnie Bernstein told the nation in Sports Illustrated: There's nothing to do in Syracuse.
Doug Small/Convention and Visitors Bureau: "I challenge that. You know the majority of things people want …bars, restaurants...are good if not better as it relates to those kind of options."
We checked with some locals to see where they would take Bonnie or any of our out of town guests this week and they came up with a list of options on the spot.
"Carousel Mall, we've got Green Lakes, state parks."
"I'd take them to the mall, Burnet Park Zoo, over to the casino."
"Probably Dinosaur BBQ.”
"I would suggest Armory Square. I don't know how they could be bored."
Syracuse Regional Organizers hope fans find it easy to stay busy... they'll also try to convince reporters Syracuse is an alright place, reaching out to national media with a free welcome banquet and Syracuse sales pitch Thursday night.
Doug Small: "Our hope is when they go home to write or report they do so in more glowing terms than one might expect. We only hope Bonnie Bernstein was here to hear our message."
Oh the horror at the projected lost revenue because of Bonnie's comments! btw the high temperatures over the weekend here in sunny Syracuse are going to be in the low 40's, with a chance of snow. How in the world can Austin and Albequerque compete with that!?!
You know, it would really be nice if the Spartans would do me and the rest of the sane people in the world a favor and dispose of those blue idiots tomorrow. Just saying.
