500 laps at the Indy 500.
I used to think all Oval racing was crap until I started getting into IRL. I can't get into the Nascar though.
IRL has some very close wheel-to-wheel racing, even if they are just turning left, and this years Indy 500 had about the first eight cars seperated by a second, racing three wide at 200mph next to a concrete wall. The cars are heavy and lifting for a instant can cost a pilot 3 places. The crashes are spectacular, and the drivers are taking bigger risks than in F1 (count the broken backs).
There are are 3 road-circuits (as they call no-ovals in the 'States) on the IRL 2005 calendar, so they have to be able to turn right occasionally!
I couldn't only watch oval racing, but after some of the dull F1 races in the last few years (obviously not Japan '05), watching some overtaking on sunday evening came as a welcome relief.
Come to think of it - if they really want to make interesting races, then the rule changes for next season should be :
No qualification - guess they have to invent something new for tv coverage on saturday.
The winner of previous race starts at position 20, second at 19 etc.
Monaco would certainly be a tough one, but on the other tracks ? well some should maybe be changed to improve takeover possibilities.
Am I crazy ? Well, maybe, but just imagine how they were forced to fight their way through their worst opponents in almost every race
With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.

500 And I still say it´s up there with watching paint dry, in terms of interest

I can see your point, but it´s never gonna work. The whole season would be a mishmash of drivers and teams and stuff. It wouldn´t be F1 anymore
What you could do is bring back the old qualifying rules. Ie count the best lap of say 10, or as many as you can drive in 20 minutes.
Well, if F1 is reduced to cars getting the blue flag, then I really don't care much if F1 get a serious overhaul.
I would love to see races where the drivers has to do serious driving, not just improving their lap speed. Actually, I think that the drivers think the same - though the constructors may think otherwise .

Never saw a IRL race. I have saw some Nascar. Not real racing, it is a circus. It is grotesque how they put out the SC when any car takes some adventage to regroup the field and have some passing again. That sort of overtakings means nothing. I wonder if they do the same in IRL.
Boring race, Fernando dominating easily, Kimi was off pace, undeserved penalty for Fisi IMO, Montoya was unlucky. Shangai drain covers WCC to Renault too. (i bet that moron Ron Dennid doesnt say now that the WCC is more important for him than WDC )
I thought it was quite exciting at times. 2 yellow flags and 2 safety cars. Schumi making an ass of himself (twice!) Spectacular crasch by Karthikeyan... But Kimi should´ve been in better shape for some serious competition and Montoyas accident was just stupid
Good performance by by both Massa and Klien though
Yeah, those drain covers were bad news, but could have been worse if JPM hit it between the legs . Apparantly the Aussie V8's had problems with them too. Funny how Fernando and Kimi managed to avoid it but 'Pinball' didn't. A dull race because the Macca's were so slow (almost Williams / BAR pace it seemed), but congrats to Renault.
