So Toyota had a better day than Honda, and without Kimi's spin, let alone tyre change, he'd have got a podium.

        • I guess that it's quite certain that Alonso will win this year unless he breaks a leg or like in a crash - don't hope such a thing

Besides that it might be quite interesting in tomorrows race - Montoya and Kimi battling for first from start with the probably best in starting pos 2.

Thaat is, of course, if a certain tyre company remembers to glue their products correctly

Another interesting thing is that Red Bull seems to have some balls - they have bought Minardi so they now has two teams - can't remeber that has happend before (well, I'm not a F1 geek, so some of you may teach me otherwise )

Well, if Sava is on some kind of diet of certain kind of vegetables that mainly is taken in by a pipe, well, that could explain some parts. I must admit that I don't know how mushrooms with special effects are taken.

@ Sava : Your thread about kittens really scores - I might even end up like you

              • Another solid performance from Alonso, the world champion. Well this was obvious since a month ago or so, but you can never be sure. Surely in the remaining races he will drive less cautious and more agressively. It will be more funny.

As for the cars, even with those supposed improvements, Renaults are still way behind Maccas, WCC will be surely for McLaren. Montoya won plain and simple his race vs Kimi in despite the so pro-Kimi strategy. I would like to know the "but" and "if" from Kimi fans this time.

                • Yay, Alonso!! This is a record that Schumi won´t be able to beat!!!

Montoya has really picked up the pace these last seasons. Or rather, now he´s fast AND reliable (even if the car wasn´t this season). A hell of a change since his early days in Williams... If the McLarens get their stuff together for next season there will be intense competition for the drivers title between Kimi and Alonso.

And I think that the constructors title is McLarens for sure, Kimi/Montoya is a better team than Alonso/Fisichella.

                  • Yes, congrats Fernando.

However, we still don't really know whether Alonso is quicker than Kimi - though we certainly know he had a better all-round car (not as quick as the Macca but more reliable when it counts).

I'd like to put them both in an A1 car and see them race against the blindingly fast Brazilian Nelson Piquet jnr, who blew the rest of the field away at the inaugural 'World Cup of Motor Sport' meeting at Brands Hatch this weekend.

I was in the Paddock Hill grandstand, with it's superb view over the natural amphitheatre of the Indy Circuit section of Brands, and particularly the thrilling Paddock Hill bend (comparable to Eau Rouge at Spa) where we we were all relieved to see the Lebanese driver walk away from a spectacular barrel roll that left him upside-down in the gravel. Here's to safety in modern open-wheelers.

Reliability is an issue for the fledgling series, I think, with mechanicals stopping Premat's race for France and local boy Robbie Kerr (GB), amongst the front-runners. All in all though, I think the 46,000 crowd gave the thumbs up to Sheik Maktoom for bringing his bold vision to reality, with excellent value for the spectators.

                    Go A1!

                    • Oh, and three hundred cheers for Dan Wheldon for winning the IRL series and the even-more-prestigious Indy 500 in the same year. Only four drivers in 25 years have done this, so added to Alonso's record for the youngest-ever F1 DWC, and the opening of the new A1 formula, yesterday was quite a day for motor racing.

Me neither, given a car that works properly there´s nothing that says that Kimi won´t come out on top next year. It will be really exciting, I don´t think there´s been that kind of competition since Prost/Senna. I´m already looking forward to 2006

                        • Yep - should be good next year if Big Ron can nail the McGremlins. We can't rule out Montoya either. He's not as disciplined as Alonso and makes more mistakes than Kimi, but he's finished the season strongly. Also next year we'll get to see how good Jenson Button really is, now that he's got Rubens as a team mate rather than the not-very-good Sato or the fading light of Jacques Villeneuve. He might be in for a shock - especially with a Brazilian influence already in the team (Giles de Ferran) making sure JB doesn't always get the best bits.

                          • If Button doesn´t deliver next year I think he´s toast. No one likes a diva that doesn´t win And I don´t think Rubens will give anything away for free this time.

                            • This hurts. Alonso is the right winner of this years championship. wrote it without smashing the keyboard

Both man and machine delivered stable results through the season, and that's what counts. Kimi may be a better driver and the Maclaren a better car, but that doesn't help if the car explodes or damages in training/qual forces him to move ten places back.

If Maclaren/Mercedes gets control of the HW, next season might be a bit boring. Though, a battle between Kimi and Montoya could be interesting.

Sad to say it, but the other teams has to pray to that M/M doesn't get control of the cars - if that doesn't happen, they are toast.

                              • Kimi may be better driver? I dont know what Kimi fans have been seeing all season. All i have seen is a driver with the fastest car losing the championship and being beaten several times by his teammate. About Alonso i have seen a driver with a much slower car to win the championship smashing his teammate on all aspects. In despite that Ron Dennis (McLaren boss and official F1 whinning loser) has said lately, Kimi still have to prove himself. Alonso have not.

About McLaren, next year we go to V8. It will be another world. Toyota may very well be ahead. And dont forget Ferrari is there again, this time surely with a working car. So maybe McLaren/Kimi have lost his only chance to win a championship in many years...
