I just read the EU plans to rise the age of drinking (beer for example) from 16 to 18 generally.

What a stupid idea, how can you expect to have fun at the age of 16 then or 17?

The future of mankind lies in giving responsibility back to the people and educating them and not excerting all control from top authorities, that's the future of a new kingdom and not a democratic state. The EU is heading the wrong way, people are heading the wrong way. Blinded by the light.

a couple of years ago i would have been outraged but because of my length i could by beer when i was 14 so no problem here...

Isn't this because some of the new, Eastern European members are experiencing terrible problems with youth alcoholism? BBC had something not too long ago discussing the problem that the issue is giving the Czechs.
