Yeah, I'm sure you'll find some reason to dig it up.Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent. Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing?
Then why call him God? - Epicurus

Asher there is no way this **** will fly, not in 20 years or ever. Yes black people were not popular and now everyone loves them, but that is different because people realized there is nothing unnatural about being black. The problem homosexuality has is that it will never be natural, there will always be people who consider it to be eww, and hence the only popular gay shows will continue to be Queer as **** and Will and Grace and the Macy's parade.

Do you think there will ever be a similar US show, a "realistic" teen drama?
Already has been one. It was called "Freaks and Geeks" and was canceled due to low ratings. Though I don't know if they had any gay characters on it (didn't really watch it too much).
Re: Desperate Housewives, Bree's son is a regular recurring character, and is gay. He was the one who was with his boyfriend--and the whole coming out bit was a major plot point behind the relationship between Bree and her (troubled) son.
EDIT:
Haha! I realized I posted in here already. My post did make me recall the gay math teacher so, yes. One gay character, but they didn't really do all that much with him.B♭3

Absolutely, US TV has just gone down hill for the longest time, and will continue its slide. and now that you guys have done it the idea will no doubt be stolen.
The best shows on now and in the last decade or so totally blow anything from the earlier decades out of the water.

I saw that show also. It, like Buffy, was all about 20something actors playing teens. My So Called Life was also cancelled and unsuccessful, which is kinda the point. Degrassi is Canada's most watched drama.
I know "The Office" has Oscar, a gay employee, but most of his sexual orientation is used to show how bigoted Michael Scott, the boss, actually is. Otherwise, its mostly a non-issue, which is what I think gay people would like it to be in the workplace.“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

There's also ample precedent for psychopaths, deaf people and pedophiles, they are aberrations who will never get popular on TV.
Since I last posted in this thread I saw "the L word" on free preview. It was only one episode, but what I saw was:
-hot chicks rubbing up against each other
-hot chicks acting indignant over homophobic remarks
-hot chicks rubbing up against each other some more
I guess that's progress for gay people, of sorts. Wasn't there some show called "Queer as folk" on some cable network a while ago?

Yes. The US version was much more subdued compared to the UK version, but it was a good show.
It, like the L Word, is a cable show though..."The issue is there are still many people out there that use religion as a crutch for bigotry and hate. Like Ben."

UK teen show Skins has a realistic, well written gay character. He's just one of the bunch of friends, and one of the themes is how his moslem best friend deals with the fact his best friend is gay and the conflict with his religion.
It's actually a really great show and the actors are all teenagers.
Although this profile of him is a bit dumb:
Jon Miller: MikeH speaks the truth
Jon Miller: MikeH is a shockingly revolting dolt and a masturbatory urine-reeking sideshow freak whose word is as valuable as an aging cow paddy.
We've got both kinds
