  • Man charged in alleged plot to assassinate Bush

    The Associated Press

    February 22, 2005, 10:42 AM EST

ALEXANDRIA, Va. -- A former high school valedictorian in Virginia was charged Tuesday with conspiring to assassinate President Bush and conspiracy to support the al-Qaida terrorist network.

Ahmed Omar Abu Ali, 23, a U.S. citizen, made an initial appearance Tuesday in U.S. District Court. He claimed that he was tortured while detained in Saudi Arabia since June of 2003 and offered through his lawyer to show the judge his scars.

The indictment said that in 2002 and 2003 Abu Ali and an unidentified coconspirator discussed plans for Abu Ali to assassinate Bush.

They discussed two scenarios, the indictment said, one in which Abu Ali "would get close enough to the president to shoot him on the street" and, alternatively, "an operation in which Abu Ali would detonate a car bomb."

Good Lord... then we'd have President Cheney!

I think that a Bush assassination could be disasterous for American politics. The last thing our country needs is a surge of political based violence.

What do you think we have now? Anyway, he'd be dead within the year from the stress.

No way, Cheney's phylactery is well hidden!

It's just as well. He'd become a martyr for conservative Christians.

Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent. Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing?

When an evil sorcerer wants to become an undead liche, he stores his soul in a small jar called a phylactery.

President Dennis J. Hastert, current Speaker of the House.

If he dies, it would go to Senate Pro Temp (the guy in charge when the VP isn't there) Ted Stevens.
