    I'm looking for a flash-based mp3 player too.

The big problem to me, for the Ipod Shuffle is the lack of FM radio. Sometimes I just get bored with whatever's on my mp3 player, and want to listen to an eclectic station, NPR, etc.

So, I'm looking at the Sandisk 1 GB ($140 US), and the Creative Muvo 1 GB ($190 US). Both have good quality FM radios, displays, etc., but the Muvo seems to be more reliable, and has a longer battery life. Has anyone tried either?

My favorite part of the MacWorld '05 keynote was how he talked about how bad the existing flash market was, and mentioned they all had "tortured user interfaces".

Apple's brilliant solution? Remove the screen and any kind of scrolling capability, now it's suddenly untortured because to scroll through songs, you just blindly click next/prev...

And somehow, his fanbase ate this up. All he has to tell is tell people something is better, and his followers will clap and cheer for him.

Every flash player I can think of in the past 3-4 years has had shuffle/random functionality, and Creative's players have all had it well before Apple finally added it to the iPod.

Another innovation from Apple -- if only everyone else knew that removing the screen improved ease of use.

Yes, the Creative model as more features, but the Shuffle is also 100$ cdn cheaper. So if the screen is not that big a deal for you, why not buy a Shuffle?

I'm not sure I would like the Shuffle though. First, finding a song could be a pain in the ass. Although Agathon seems to think it's not that bad. Second, there's no equalizer. Mind you, that's a reason not to buy the Shuffle and the Creative : I would be surprised if there was an equalizer on the Creative model.

The MuVos do come with an equalizer.

The 512MB MuVo N200 is $149 CDN at my local comp shop (www.canadacomputers.com). FM tuner, screen, equalizer, voice recording...

A 512MB iPod Shuffle is $129 CDN at Future Shop (http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/pro...=&newdeptid=19).

512 MB is too small. If you compare the 1 GB models, however, the Shuffle is 190$ cdn (Future Shop) and the MuVo is 280$ cdn (Future Shop). Quite a difference.

It's only that much of a difference at a few select stores. I've found the 1 GB models for the MuVo TX FM 1GB model to be only about 20% more.

I gave the price for the MuVo N200. Are you sure there's a MuVo TX FM 1GB model in the first place? On the Creative website they say the TX FM comes with a maximum of 512 MB.

Yes I am sure. Unlike some fans of Apple, I actually look at facts.

So I'm an Apple fan now? We didn't look at the same place. I looked here:

                        Future Shop is ****.

                        The 1GB MuVo Micro N200 is $235 at CanadaComputers.com.

They don't have any Shuffles yet, because Apple hasn't sent them any. I doubt they'd be much different from FutureShop's price though, the iPod and iPod Minis they carry are about the same price as Future Shop.

Apple seems to have a very tight grip on grey market pricing, while Creative gives them lots of pricing freedom.

Thanks for the link btw. And for 60$ cdn more, you get a zen micro. Now that's tempting...
