  • Adopt a sniper?

A U.S. university in Wisconsin has blocked an attempt by Republican students to raise money for a group called "Adopt a Sniper" that raises money for U.S. sharp-shooters in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The students were selling bracelets bearing the motto "1 Shot 1 Kill No Remorse I Decide."

"Clearly the rhetoric of that organization raised some questions and we had some strong objections as a Jesuit university," Marquette University school spokeswoman Brigid O'Brien said on Thursday.
A Christian school had an "Adopt a Sniper" program?! This is one case where University officials made the right call.

What's so bad about "adopting" a sniper?

Nothing, if your aim is to promote violence and killing. In other words, nothing if you’re a Republican.

The movie was quite good. They showed a .50 cal sniper rifle at one point (that must be a bastard on the cheek bone to fire). Its interesting that the adoptasniper group was initially organized by police snipers.

Marquette I wonder what the response would have been if it was a group soliciting money for defense funds for Guantanamo prisoners.

You don't believe there's something unchristian about sponsoring violence? It makes sense that a religious school would wish to avoid the sponsoring of violence.

Its not like they're paying for Iraqi scalps or something like that. Reuters quotes the group as saying that they're helping get snipers the equipment they need. Equipment can be body armor, camoflauge, or even food as much as it can mean bullets. Snipers are a legitimate part of our armed forces, just as much as any other type of soldier. I'm not a Bush supporter, nor am I a fan of the Iraqi war, but I think its unreasonable to prevent these students fom sending support to US Soldiers.

As for the relgious question, not all sects of Christianity are Pacifist. Mennonites are; Catholics aren't. I'm not sure which denomination Marquette belongs to.

They're Jesuit, which is a hard-core type of Catholocism.

"1 Shot 1 Kill No Remorse I Decide."

This is just a power trip kind of thing.

Someone should start a charity for Iraqi insurgents, with the same kind of slogan.

If you guys actually knew any Jesuits then you'd have seen this coming.

People like them are the only reason I respect the pro-life crowd at all.

Likely the Jesuits would have allowed it. What's your point, sweetie?

How stupid... If I were going to adopt a sniper I would at least want them to write me letters and draw me pictures!
